A Brief History of the Raymond Sportsman's Club

The Club was first incorporated on March 8, 1960 by a group of individuals who enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and the shooting sports.

With the dual purpose of adding additional sports to the organization and because membership in the Club was on the decline, about ten years after inception, our Club associated with the Spacetown Beagle Club. Spacetown has retained that association to this day. Spacetown shares operating expenses with our Club and uses about 50 acres of Club property to run their dogs, raise rabbits and conduct sanctioned field trials. Our two organizations get along in the best of a "Sportsman" relationship.

In about 1983, membership in our Club was on the rise. More sportsmen were enjoying the attributes of the Club. In 1986, a rifle range was constructed and shortly thereafter a pistol range was completed. The same year saw a second story added to our Club house. This gave the Club a real boost by having such an excellent facility for organized Club use as well as Club members individual functions. One can now, with a donation of $50.00, have a private function at the Club, i.e. birthday party, wedding reception, etc.

We have recently done a complete over-haul of the rifle range and the pistol range.

Membership is now approximately 130 members. We are gaining new members almost every month, and are especially pleased our "younger" membership is up. We are increasing our Hunter-Safety Course to a "Team" concept and the Club recently became a member of the Granite State Bowman Association. In summary, we are growing the right way and becoming one of the finest Sporting Clubs in the region.
